  • Five physicians of Redirections Treatment Advocates, LLC, an opioid addiction treatment practice with offices in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, have been indicted on charges of unlawfully dispensing controlled substances and health care fraud. (Justice.gov)

  • Friday's job report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that the healthcare industry added 24,000 jobs in the month of April, bringing the total healthcare jobs added in 2018 to 305,000. (BLS.org)

 

  • On Friday, the DEA suspended Louisiana-based Morris & Dickson's license to sell controlled drugs. The DEA alleges that Morris & Dickson failed to report excessive opioid orders from at least 5 independent pharmacies. (Justice.gov)

 

  • Activist investor Elliott Management Corp. has offered to buy Athenahealth Inc., a healthcare IT company in which it has an 8.9% stake, for $160 a share. (Reuters.com)

 

  • California state auditors released a new report last week declaring that the state has not adequately addressed quality-of-care deficiencies in skilled nursing facilities. The number of deficiencies related to substandard care increased by 31% from 2006 through 2015, and deficiencies associated with nursing facility noncompliance that caused or were likely to cause serious injury, harm, impairment, or death to residents increased by 35% from 2006 through 2015.
