Medicare and Medicaid

  • CMS released its first ever Rural Health Strategy on Tuesday. The agency wants to ensure that the 60 million Americans living in rural areas, several million of whom are Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries, have access to high quality, affordable healthcare. (CMS.gov)

 

  • Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner received permission from CMS on Monday to allocate $2 billion of Medicaid funds in a different way to better serve constituents. Planned pilot programs are focused on managing the opioid crisis, including residential and inpatient treatment for substance abuse, clinically managed withdrawal management, peer recovery support, and evidence-based home visiting. Legislation

  • The House Committee on Veteran's Affairs passed the VA MISSION (Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks) Act yesterday, which aims to ensure veterans have access to the healthcare they need and streamline community care programs. President Trump has challenged Congress to pass this bill by the Memorial Day recess to ensure that there is no gap in funding when the Veterans Choice Program's budget is depleted on May 31. Private Sector

  • Health technology company Buoy Health has partnered with CVS Health's MinuteClinic subsidiary. The partnership will make Buoy's user-friendly AI chatbot accessible in 1,100 MinuteClinic locations nationwide to assess a patient's condition and provide recommendations for further care and treatment based on the answers to an adaptive survey.
